Songlines of Sleep

You are invited to the 2027 Dream Mysteries training retreat for facilitators, artists, therapists, teachers, storytellers, and anyone else interested in working intentionally with sleep and dreamstates. Our theme for this retreat is the healing power of story, myth as medicine and the unique power dreams have to alchemise and integrate personal, and collective narratives.

The group will stay together in the beautiful seaside village of Ancient Epidavros, next to the beach. Here it is possible to swim over a sunken Roman villa, sometimes with the turtles! The villa is at a very shallow depth so you can actually just wade out to it.

Rooms are private, spacious, with a large bedroom, lounge, small kitchenette, private bathroom, and large balcony or garden, with views over the garden and mountains and out to sea. From our guesthouse you will be looking across the dreamy Saronic Gulf to the volcanic Methana peninsula. Friends who would like to share a room with a group of 3 or more can contact me to arrange. Max capacity per apartment would be 4 people.

We will work with dreams using the Art of Memory, storytelling, ritual, writing, divination, mantic arts, games (including Oracular Scrabble), voicework and embodiment, and energetic exercises for cultivating the ‘ka’ (the creative spirit body/vital essence as described in ancient Egyptian spiritual texts and art) to improve dreaming continuity, coherence, and vitality. We will work with image and movement, and other novel ways of remembering and encouraging lucid dreaming.

Mon 12:

Minibus pick up 3pm Athens from Acropolis Car Park outside Dionysos Zonar Restaurant

Stop off at Agnountos Monastery on the way to Ancient Epidavros

Tue 13:

Opening dream circle

Tour of the village, Acropolis and Ancient Theatre, Zoodochos Pigi Church.

Evening Workshop

Dream Elixir: Myth as Medicine, The Healing Arts of Asklepios, Apollo and Hygieia, Dionysos, Enkoimesis, Sacred Theatre and Katharsis

Wed 14:

Visit to the Sanctuary of Asklepios and Apollo Maleatus in Epidavros, with local Asklepiade Eleftherios Makridopoulos

Evening Workshop:

At Eleftherios’s Alchemy lab and treatment centre. Herbal tea and demonstration of alchemical work and herbal elixir production.

Visit Kefalari, the cave and waters (where Herakles killed the Hydra), the Zoodochos Pigi Church, Pyramid of Elliniko, Arkadiko Mycenaen Bridge on the way home.
