EGYPT IN ENGLAND

My Egyptomania was inspired in childhood. I grew up near Crystal Palace in the 80s, when the ruins of The Great Exhibition had more of a derelict atmosphere. The fire in the petting zoo enabled some exotic bird escapes and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fad (released pet terrapins went mad in The Wandle) made me feel like I was living in a surreal JG Ballard fantasy. So I am especially looking forward to EXPLORERS & RAMASES Lecture: EGYPT IN ENGLAND with Dr. Chris Elliot. In particular I want to ask him about the newly opened Egyptian-Inspired Victorian subway there AND they've just painted the sphinxes red!
