Egyptian mummies are undoubtedly one of the most popular attractions in modern museums. But how can we explain the fascination and fear people feel when encountering them?
Manchester Museum curator Dr Campbell Price discusses this question in connection with the publication of his new book, 'Golden Mummies of Egypt: Interpreting Identities from the Graeco-Roman Period'
About Campbell Price:
Hailing originally from Scotland, Dr. Price completed his PhD at the University of Liverpool in 2011, where he researched the role of non-royal statues in temple spaces, focussing in particular on the Late Period. For over five years, he has been curator at Manchester Museum where he has redeveloped some of their galleries, while also organising some award-winning exhibits.
6 pm So You Want To Be An Egyptologist? Prof. Salima Ikram
Salima Ikram decided she wanted to be an Egyptologist when she was 8.
In this online Zoom meetup we invite you to ask one of the most famous Egyptologists in the world, all your burning Egyptological questions. Salima is an absolute expert! She's always on TV, lives in Cairo, and works on lots of digs. You could have no better person to answer your questions about what it really means to pursue Egyptology.
Salima works a lot with human and animal mummies and has recently given talks on make-up and food in Ancient Egypt. I knew she'd be perfect to talk to young, passionate Egyptomaniacs because if you've ever seen her on TV, her enthusiasm and energy is completely infectious and mesmerising.
