JUNE 20th / 7:30pm for an 8:00pm start / Bavard Bar / KINO Teatr / 43-49 Norman Rd, Hastings, St Leonards, Saint Leonards-on-sea TN38 0EG / £7
I'll be taking for just 15 minutes on the subject: Memory, Money and Manifestation. The goddesses of Memory (Mnemosyne) and Money (Moneta) are perfect symbolic representations of a cultural shift towards consumerism in the ancient world. How have the mythological archetypes of Ancient Greece and Rome shaped our collective experience and modern age of infinite debt?
The Bavard Bar. Like TED talks but for us ‘regular’ people. Come and hear 3 people share their passions for around 15 minutes each.
Past talks have included: ‘How to flirt’, ‘The interpretation of dreams’, ‘Aleister Crowley’, ‘Autism’, ‘Toilets’, ‘Guitars from the 1600s’, ‘The 90s Zine scene’ and ‘Luxembourg’.
JULY 5th-8th / Noisily Festival of Music and Arts / Coney Woods, Noseley Hall, LE7 9EH Leicester
Noisily doesn’t take itself too seriously, and neither do the 4,000 people who descend on The Coney Woods each July. It’s fun in all its forms, pure and unadulterated. Offering an alternative to mainstream festival culture, an inclusive haven where underground music thrives and self expression flourishes.
Whilst rooted in the electronic music scenes, Noisily is a holistic environment which feeds the mind, body and soul. It’s a celebration of psychedelic culture in a society which is increasingly looking within for happiness and fulfilment, and away from material goods and money as the definition of success.
JULY 12th / 3pm / British Computer Society / 5 Southampton St, London WC2E 7HA
Monday 9th July 2018 and Thursday 12th July 2018 at the BCS London Office.
Digital Futures is a regular event and open platform organized by V&A Digital Programmes for displaying and discussing work by researchers, academics, the industry and practitioners working with art, technology, design, science and beyond. It is also a networking event, bringing together people from different backgrounds and disciplines with a view to generating future collaborations. This annual special event in partnership with EVA takes place before the EVA London 2018 Conference and is free to attend.
The event adopts a show and tell format including talks, demos and/or participatory work.
I shall be presenting a mixed-reality project I've been working on with Carl H. Smith at Ravensbourne College. Attendees are invited to try the programme out and Carl and I shall be discussing the use of VR technology to bring about transcendental experiences. The programme is inspired by the Mystery Schools of the ancient world and the concept of gnosis.
